Chee Tze Soo Pau Tze Choir

The forerunner of the choir started in Muar just after the Second World War, in 1945. It was then known as Three Youth Choir, being a wing of an organisation that involved itself in education, poetry, brass band and harmonica band.

In 1949 the choir assumed its present name after a round of re-organisation. The choir was very active in the early years, and had taken part in various concerts in Malaysia and Singapore. The membership had almost reached 100 in 1962. In order to maintain the standard and size of the choir, a children's choir was formed in 1991. Several members of this choir had made it to the music colleges overseas.

At present the choir has about 30 active members, singing in SATB. The current choir director is Mr Ho Tzan Lin.

It is very active in the local music scene. Through years of fund raising, and herculean efforts of its members, it even managed to have its own music hall complete with a Kawai conservatory grand piano! This has put the choir in an enviable position, as it can now organise concerts at a minimal cost. Since opening last year, it has hosted a national singing competition, a recital by Japanese Soprano Emi Mori, and numerous other musical events.

The coming events this year include a recital by talented local soprano Tan Yeng Leng on 20.4.08 to raise fund for her to further her singing education in the States. Soprano Emi Mori will make a come back performance tentatively fixed on 8.8.08. Her repertoire this time will include well-known Chinese and Japanese songs, in addition to the usual selection of arias.
